Pages out of a PDF

Save PDF pages as images

Pick the pages you need and get one image per page, at the resolution you choose. The PDF is opened and rendered on this device, so a confidential document stays confidential.

Picking a DPI you will not regret

A PDF page has no pixels of its own — it is drawn on demand — so the DPI you pick is what decides the image size. A Letter page at 150 DPI is about 1275 × 1650 pixels, which is comfortable on screen and in a slide. At 300 DPI it is roughly 2550 × 3300, which stays sharp when someone zooms in or prints it. Above that, file sizes climb quickly for detail most people never see. Very large pages are automatically rendered slightly smaller than requested rather than exhausting the tab's memory, and the resolution actually used is reported with the result.

Two PDFs this cannot open

Some PDFs need a character-set table for Chinese, Japanese, or Korean text that MorphoThat does not ship yet — about 1.1 MB of tables we chose not to send to every visitor. Those files fail with a clear message instead of rendering blank pages. Separately, a page whose images use the JBIG2 or JPEG 2000 codecs cannot be decoded here, because those decoders need a browser permission that would weaken the security policy behind the no-upload guarantee. When that happens, the affected page is reported and the other pages still convert.

There is no text recognition. A scanned PDF is a stack of pictures, so text output on a scan fails honestly rather than returning a blank file. Converting a PDF into an editable Word document is also not offered: no permissive engine can do it in a browser, and we will not upload your document to a server that can.

Limits: 50 MB per PDF, up to 500 pages in a document, and up to 100 pages selected in one go. Encrypted and password-protected PDFs are not opened.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to be rendered?

No. The pages are rendered by a PDF engine running in this browser tab. The converter is served under a policy with no network permission at all, so there is nothing for a request to escape through.

Which page numbers should I type?

The ones you see in your PDF reader, starting at 1. A range like 1-5, 8, 12-15 works, and duplicates and overlapping ranges are tidied up for you. A reversed range such as 5-1 is rejected rather than guessed at.

Why did my PDF fail with a message about a character set?

It uses one of the predefined CJK character-set tables that we do not ship yet. Re-exporting the PDF from the application that created it, with fonts embedded, usually produces a file this tool can read.

Why did one page fail while the rest worked?

That page contains a JBIG2 or JPEG 2000 image. Decoding either one needs a WebAssembly permission we deliberately do not grant, so the page is reported as unavailable instead of being written out blank.

Can I get the text out of a scanned PDF?

No. Text output copies out words the PDF already stores. A scan stores pictures of words, and reading those needs optical character recognition, which is not part of this tool.

Can I convert a PDF into a Word document?

No. There is no permissive engine that reconstructs an editable document in a browser, and the alternative is uploading your PDF to a server. That is not a trade we make.

JPG or PNG?

JPG for pages that are mostly photographs, and for the smallest files. PNG for pages of text, tables, diagrams, and screenshots, where its lossless compression keeps edges crisp.

Choose the pages

Leave the page range empty for every page, or type something like 1-5, 8, 12-15. The numbers are the ones printed in your reader, counting from one.

Resolution is a real setting

DPI decides how many pixels each page becomes. 150 is fine on screen, 300 reads well when zoomed, and 600 is for detail you intend to crop into.

Text, if the PDF has any

Choose text output to get a .txt file of the words already stored in the PDF. If it is a scan, there are no words to get, and the tool says so rather than handing you an empty file.
